This may be the first of a new form of internet piracy. Darren Di Lieto, of Apefluff and The Little Chimp Society, has recently written about a new book called “Colorful Illustrations 93°C” that illegally reprints the art of dozens of well known illustrators. Furthermore, it appears that the bulk of the book’s content is lifted from interviews that Darren published on TheLittleChimpSociety.com.
The book is also accompanied by a cd-rom of all the stolen images. Although the pirated illustrations on the book are all credited to the original artists, Darren was not credited for any of his interviews or work. Of course none of the artists who’s art was used were ever contacted for approval of their art to be used.
You can read Jonathan Edwards account of the story here and Joshua Ellingson’s story here.
