The Astronaut’s Prayer

I found this great lenticular 3D postcard yesterday with an interesting juxtaposition of science and religion. The writing on the back reads:

In the beginning God… Astronaut’s prayer

“Give us, o God, the vision which can see thy love in the world of spite of human failure…”
2nd. Chronicles 7 : 14

Long may our land be bright
With freedom’s holy light
Protect us by They light
Great GOD-Our King!

A Miracle-Vue Production

The funny thing is that there really is a thing called The Astronaut’s Prayer already. It’s been rumored that Alan Shepard uttered “Dear lord, please don’t let me fuck up.” just before becoming the first American in space. I would have loved to have seen that scribbled on the back of this card in some calligraphic font.

While perhaps more historically accurate, the real Astronaut’s Prayer might not be a good fit for the wildly competitive lenticular space-themed religious postcard demographic. It might work for the growing niche market of lenticular alt/ironic space themed religious postcards though.
