(the Best In Show award as seen from above)
I was ready to get crunk! As one of the judges of the Jell-o Shot Bake Off, it was my task to try as many of those jiggly shots of alcohol as I could consume. And consume I did! In fact I’m pretty sure I tried all but one (the Cosby) of this year’s entries. At the end of the night though, I was surprisingly sober… and a little grossed out… But I still had a blast!
There were wiggly shots, fluffy, shots, and shots that didn’t quite congeal correctly. Tasty highlights included a Jason Sylvestor’s “Perfect Rye Manhattan” shots, Eric Master‘s “Black Cherry Bourbon” shots, and Anneke’s cleverly titled “Devlish Eggs” (bloody mary jell-o shots in hard boiled eggs)!
Low-lights include Eric Master’s “Tequila Mockingbird“, a tequila shot with a cooked chicken’s foot resting on top (because, why not?) and the simply terrible “Pho Net” shot which actually consisted of two of my favorite things; Fernet and Pho. Pho Net was the only shot I spit out that night. Simply writing about it brings that awful meaty smell back into my mind. Phuck!
Huge shout out to all the participants and the organizers. I had a ball and can’t wait to enter next year! Full flickr set here. See all the scores for the entries here.
