“Far Away“, my Star Wars inspired comic book about friendship and robots is in it’s final 24 hours on Kickstarter and has raised about 2/3rds of it’s funding goal. Which means I still need to raise $1,000 for the project to be funded.
That’s not an impossible task, but it is looking highly unlikely at this moment. At this moment I have 82 backers, who have donated an average of $25 each. So I’d need about 40 more backers to reach the goal.
The book is written and drawn, and I’ve promised to pay my colorist no matter what happens, so I’m not really sure what my plan is if the Kickstarter fails. I could put the finished project up on Gumroad with my other comics, but based on my previous comic selling experiences, I think I’m unlikely to sell more than 10-20 comics there.
This is my 5th Kickstarter, and the first one to be so far below the goal this close to the end of the project. I always knew there was a chance one of my projects might not get funded, I had just hoped I’d find out before I got too far along with that project.
I had really hoped that Star Wars Day was going to be a kick-ass day for my comic. In fact, I had planned the whole project’s launch around May the 4th, in hopes of an extra bump. We made some new art for it and shared some great posts, but we only saw two new backers by the end of the day.
I am still really proud of all the work Mike and I have put into this book, I just hope we have a chance to share it with folks.
