Yo-Yo Gifs from the good old days of GeoCities sites

Remember GeoCities? I don’t.

I mean, I’ve heard of GeoCities, but I didn’t really get online until 2000, and even then I was primarily just visiting the same 3 yo-yo bulletin boards. The only thing I knew about GeoCities was that it was that place with all the terrible gifs.

The Internet Archive recently launched GifCities, an online search engine to find archived gifs from old GeoCities sites. Feeling nostalgic, I thought it’d be interesting browse those yo-yo gifs and share some favorites here.

lol omg more like the bad old days! This is a pretty accurate representation of what my Geocities website looked like in the 90s.

My website was supposed to be a fantasy tavern, where road-weary travelers could come and rest their bones and get a hot meal. That was it, that was the whole point of it. I don’t know how or why I got that idea.

But then, bit-by-bit, I started adding weird fandom offshoots to it, like pages where I talked about the books I liked, or pages about Sailor Moon, so it slowly became less and less like a high-fantasy tavern and more like… I don’t even know what.
